Oregon football holding Ohio State to worst home half in Ryan Day era
What a start it has been for Oregon football in Columbus on Saturday afternoon.
For those on the West Coast, it’s been an action-packed morning with great play from Oregon on the road probably from the second you woke up until your first morning coffee.
The Ducks headed into the locker room with a 14-7 lead over No. 3 Ohio State which has the nation on notice because no one expected the Ducks to do much of anything against the Buckeyes in Week 2. Heck, Vegas was pretty heavily favoring Ohio State and anyone picking the Ducks looked a little silly.
Now, who looks silly?
Oregon is doing this without two of its best defenders in Justin Flowe and Kayvon Thibodeaux who were ruled out right before kickoff and that led to a fanbase-wide panic which has since subsided.
What people don’t realize, though, is that Oregon held Ohio State to a Ryan Day-era worst first half of football at home.
Oregon football having an elite defensive day
A graphic flashed on the screen after the first quarter that stated that this was the first time in the Day era at Ohio State that the Buckeyes were held scoreless.
Later, there was another graphic right before the half that showed that this was the fewest first-half points Ohio State has scored at home since 2017 when the Buckeyes lost to Oklahoma and Baker Mayfield infamously planted the flag.
It’s hard to believe the defense is doing this without Flowe and Thibodeaux but Mario Cristobal has his troops ready in Columbus.
