1. Verone McKinley III

Say it with me: Verone McKinley III leads the nation in interceptions. OK, he’s tied for the lead in college football, but through four games, having four interceptions has to be regarded as one of the most impressive feats anyone has accomplished on the roster this year.

McKinley picked off Jordan McCloud on Saturday night to give him four interceptions on the year which is already a career-high and it was the third straight game in which he recorded one.

On top of that pick against the Wildcats, he also had six tackles which gives him 23 on the year and he looks like the best defensive back on the team. He has been one of the best safeties in college football this season and I believe he looks like an All-American through the first month.

McKinley was the player I came away impressed with most on Saturday night and unless he struggles mightily moving forward, he should be a staple recipient of a weekly game ball.
