Oregon football has a problem on its hands, whether Mario Cristobal wants to admit it or not.

The Ducks have the 90th-ranked passing offense and No. 54 total offense in the country which is incredibly disappointing given the fact that they have as much talent on that side of the ball as any team in the country. They were expected to have an explosive offense and that hasn’t been the case through five games.

What’s the reason for this? Well, it all starts with the quarterback position. Cristobal said that Anthony Brown is his guy, but he needs to give Ty Thompson a real shot.

And here’s why.

3. The offense needs some life injected

Right now, Oregon’s offense is stagnant. The Ducks have put up some points this season, but the total offense has been less than stellar.

There is one offense from the state of Oregon ranked in the top 50 in total yards per game — and it’s not the Ducks. Yes, the Beavers technically have a more explosive offense than Oregon’s, and that all starts with the quarterback position. Oregon actually ranks No. 54 in total offense this season at about 421 yards per game and 51st in scoring at 36 points per game.

Long story short, the offense desperately needs some life injected into it and a quarterback change can do that. We saw that being the case against Stony Brook earlier in the year when Oregon was only able to muster 17 first-half points with Anthony Brown leading the way and then when Ty Thompson came in, the Ducks put up 31 in the second half.

The offense is just too stagnant with Brown under center and Thompson could reignite this ground and really turn it into one of the Pac-12’s best offenses.

Sometimes all you need is change.
