1. Oregon is the Pac-12’s last hope for a playoff berth

Oregon is the Pac-12’s last hope. If the conference wants to send a team to the College Football Playoff this season, it has to be the Ducks or it will be shut out yet again.

Oregon is the only team in the conference with fewer than two losses and it’s also the only team ranked in the AP Top 25. With Arizona State losing to Utah last week, the Sun Devils were dropped from the rankings and any playoff consideration and with the Utes falling at Oregon State this week, they’re no longer in the conversation to be ranked.

The Ducks are now 6-1 on the season and they’ll likely move up a couple of spots, at least, in the Week 9 AP Top 25, just over a week until the first playoff rankings come out.

If the Pac-12 wants to send a team to the playoff, they’ll have to hope Oregon wins out and captures a third straight conference crown. The Ducks do have a favorable remaining schedule.

There’s no doubt about it, Oregon is the conference’s last hope for playoff representation.
