5. Andy Avalos, Boise State head coach

A familiar face would be a welcomed sight back in Eugene as head coach and this might be one of the more outside-the-box hires as Andy Avalos has only been a head coach for one year.

Avalos, the former defensive coordinator under Mario Cristobal, left Oregon to become the head coach of Boise State this season and he led the Broncos to a 7-5 regular season but he showed flashes of being a really good candidate for Power Five openings. Although he played football at Boise State, what Oregon might be able to offer him would be tough to turn down.

Familiarity with the Oregon program would be a huge factor here and the fact that he was one of the best young defensive coordinators in college football before leaving for Boise State has to draw some attention as well.

Boise State is probably hoping he stays there for a while but Oregon is in desperation mode with a ton of big names already on the move and Avalos proving that he can coach at the FBS level.

A solid recruiter, young defensive mind, and former Oregon assistant. He checks some big boxes.
