Oregon football is looking for a new head coach and reports just came out that a top option has been ruled out. Who is it?

The coaching rumors nearly came to an end on Friday night as reports of Oregon football hiring Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning surfaced.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran with the story and it was immediately shot down by some of the top names around college football media. Sources close to the hiring process at Oregon also chimed in and shot down the rumor that a deal had been agreed upon and just needed to be signed. They stated that Lanning was a candidate, but no offer had been made — yet.

Oregon fans voiced their displeasure for the rumor because Lanning wasn’t exactly “shooting for the stars” like previous rumors had stated the athletic department would do.

But before these Lanning rumors came out, there was a big name that was reportedly ruled out as a candidate for the job that may disappoint some hopeful Duck fans: Lane Kiffin.

Rumors have circulated that Kiffin would be willing to listen to what Oregon has to say, but the Ducks don’t want to take a chance on the coach that has bounced around quite a bit throughout his career. He’d be a fantastic hire, though, and he’d immediately counter the hiring of Lincoln Riley at USC.

While this is the report at the moment, I wouldn’t be shocked to see this change as the situation is fluid and there seem to be new candidates daily.
