Dan Lanning has been chosen as the next head coach of Oregon football and it comes just in time for Early Signing Day. How did Twitter react?

Folks, the search is over. After searching for a week following a sudden departure by Mario Cristobal, Dan Lanning has been hired as the next head coach of Oregon football, per reports.

While this isn’t the big name everyone was hoping for, it actually turns out that this may be an incredible high-reward type of move. Lanning has never been a college head coach before, but that hasn’t stopped previous coordinators under Kirby Smart from having success — just ask Mel Tucker how he’s doing with that new 10-year, $95 million contract.

Lanning is going to make a nice chunk of change coaching at Oregon and while he’s not Chip Kelly or Lane Kiffin or Dave Aranda, he’s still a heck of a hire who could prove to be on their level in a couple of years.

Plus, he’s a young coach who can recruit at a high level. He’s a brilliant defensive mind who has learned under some of the best coaches in the game and he’s going to keep Oregon near the top of the Pac-12.

It’s hard to find anyone who’s truly upset about this hire after reading up on him and doing research because it’s clear he has made quite a reputation for himself. He looks the part and many believe he’s a bright young coaching star.

Oh yeah, and the players and recruits are buying in. This is a great sign for Oregon.
