Dan Lanning is going to be the next head coach of Oregon football but when will he officially join the Ducks? Hint: it’s not good news for signing day.

New head coach Dan Lanning (has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?) has a lot to focus on pertaining to his position in Eugene that has reportedly been agreed upon this weekend.

One is early signing day on Dec. 15 which is going to be crucial for the Ducks and the other is building his roster through the portal while hiring a staff and forming relationships with his new players.

But early signing day is tops on the list right now as it’s just three days away.

A major question for Ducks fans after the news of Lanning’s hiring has been “when will Lanning join the team?” The answer isn’t going to make a lot of fans happy.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Lanning is going to remain with Georgia through its College Football Playoff run which means he won’t be allowed to recruit for the Ducks until at least after that late-December playoff game. If Georgia wins, Oregon will have to wait another week and that will delay recruiting efforts and staff hiring even more.

It makes sense, though, as Georgia is going to need a defensive coordinator for a national title run and it’s not the Bulldogs’ fault that Oregon was hiring right before the early signing period.

The Ducks will have to hope some of the big names that were considering the program remain unsigned after the early period and keep Oregon high on their list.

Early signing day isn’t going to be all that exciting for Oregon fans, unfortunately.
