Oregon football is trending with one of the top prospects in the 2023 class as Cole Martin is nearing a commitment. Dan Lanning is off to a good start.

Dan Lanning is off to a solid start on the recruiting trail in Eugene as the new Oregon football coach is close to landing his first high-profile commitment since taking over.

Although he’s preparing for the Orange Bowl against Michigan still, he’s still spending plenty of time recruiting and getting things in order for when he gets to campus full time following Georgia’s playoff run. His hard work has paid off as he’s currently trending with one of the top prospects in the entire 2023 class.

Cole Martin, a four-star cornerback from Arizona, is closing in on his decision (a Jan. 1 announcement, per 247Sports) and Oregon is the favorite.

The Ducks started picking up crystal balls for Martin earlier this week and the key prediction was from 247Sports‘ Steve Wiltfong who is incredibly plugged in. It looked like almost an inevitability that Martin ends up in Eugene in 2023 as part of Lanning’s first real class.

New Oregon football coach showing off recruiting prowess

After finishing the 2022 class on a rough note thanks to Mario Cristobal’s sudden departure, kicking off the 2023 cycle with a top-100 recruit would be a massive win.

Martin is ranked the No. 87 overall recruit and ninth-best cornerback in the class, according to the composite. He holds nearly three dozen offers and the fact that Oregon is the leader just shows that Lanning has some recruiting chops and is going to do just fine in Eugene in that regard.

Get ready, Oregon fans, Lanning is going to be a better recruiter than expected.
