Will Oregon football end the 2021 season on a high note or go into 2021 with three losses in the final four games? Here’s why it’ll be the former.

Ending the 2021 regular season with a blowout loss at Utah and then a subsequent blowout defeat to the same Utes in the Pac-12 title game, Oregon football dropped out of New Year’s Six contention and into the Alamo Bowl.

Despite falling out of the NY6 and into a lesser Dec. 29 bowl game, Oregon has still earned a decent matchup with preseason playoff contender Oklahoma which is in a similar position.

Both teams will be relying on interim coaches for this game as the previous head coaches bolted for two other Power Five jobs. No one is really giving the Ducks a chance to win this one because of a COVID-19 outbreak, transfers, and injuries galore, but Oregon is going to surprise some people.

Here’s why the Ducks will beat Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.

3. Anthony Brown has plenty of bowl experience

Anthony Brown will be the most experienced and important player in this game for Oregon and he has appeared in bowl games dating all the way back to 2018 with Boston College.

While that bowl was shortened by bad weather, he got another postseason shot with Oregon in 2020, playing major snaps and totaling 183 yards and two touchdowns in the Fiesta Bowl against Iowa State. The Ducks lost, but this was the game that everyone realized he was probably the better option at quarterback over Tyler Shough.

Getting the nod in another bowl in 2021 will only give him a leg up on the competition as Oklahoma’s Caleb Williams has never appeared in a bowl and the Sooners are very young.

Brown’s experience should be a difference-maker in this one.
