Oregon football fans should be rooting hard for Georgia in the national title game on Monday night as Dan Lanning makes his final appearance.

For one final time, Oregon football coach Dan Lanning takes the field on Monday night as the defensive coordinator for Georgia which takes on Alabama in the national title game.

Lanning has been one of the best coordinators in college football over the past few seasons and while he wasn’t one of the top names to be considered for the Oregon job, when he was offered and accepted, it all just felt like a perfect fit.

The new head coach is now in his last game with Georgia as the top defensive coordinator in the country and he just helped lead the Bulldogs past a red-hot Michigan team in the Orange Bowl.

It’s been easy for Oregon fans to root for him with the Ducks out of the postseason after an Alamo Bowl loss and it’ll be even easier on Monday night when the Bulldogs take on mighty Alabama for a chance to win their first national title in 41 years. It would be a heck of an accomplishment to beat Alabama and secure a national title, and he could be a big proponent in that.

Lanning has led one of the best defenses in recent college football history and a win over Alabama would give him his first national title as a coach and it would immediately improve his recruiting pitch at Oregon.

With an elite recruiting staff already assembled, it would be even scarier if he added a ring to his repertoire to show recruits that he knows what it takes to win it all. That’s a heck of a pitch.

Oregon fans should be rooting heavily for Georgia and Lanning on Monday night because it’s only going to help the Ducks in the long term.
