Although five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly isn’t signing in February, he’s still a top target for Oregon football. Do the Ducks have a real shot?

It’s been a while since we’ve heard the name Josh Conerly connected with Oregon football and that’s probably because all has been relatively quiet since the fall.

Earlier this month, Conerly released a top six which included Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, and Washington. He tweeted out his top six with “recruitment closed” with it which means that he won’t be considering anyone else before he signs.

But according to reports, he doesn’t plan on signing in February and is going to wait until late spring or early summer and that may actually be a good sign for the Ducks.

Conerly could spend this extra time before he signs to get acquainted with Dan Lanning and the new coaching staff in Oregon. He was already familiar with the Ducks as Mario Cristobal was recruiting him before he left for Miami so Lanning was set up nicely and he’s already putting in work to make sure Oregon is in it until the end.

Do the Ducks stand a real shot here?

What are Oregon football’s chances here?

If we’re being realistic, I’d say Oregon is on the outside looking in right now. The Ducks may have been a favorite earlier in the fall when Cristobal had the Ducks ranked in the top five nationally, but since he left, it’s been like a refresh button with the new coaching staff.

If he were to sign in February, I’d say the Ducks have no shot. But since he’s waiting until late spring, I’m going to say if Oregon can get him on campus, they’ll be right back near the top.

Oregon is on the outside looking in, but the longer this recruitment lasts, the better for the Ducks.

Conerly is ranked the No. 8 recruit in the nation and No. 1 offensive tackle on 247Sports.
