Dan Lanning has been on the job for only a few weeks full-time, but the new Oregon football coach has been doing and saying all the right things.
Although Dan Lanning has only been in Eugene full-time for a few weeks, the new Oregon football coach has been winning fans over left and right.
At halftime of Saturday’s Oregon basketball win over Oregon State, Lanning took the floor and got to speak to the crowd. He spoke on his goals for the program and the fanbase seemed engaged from the get-go. They loved what he had to say, including his desire to bring championships to Eugene because that’s all Duck fans have ever wanted.
Not only is he saying all the right things to win fans over after Mario Cristobal left abruptly and seemingly sucked the air out of the fanbase, but he’s doing all the right things, too.
Lanning has hired the right staff with some elite recruiters and brilliant football minds, he’s recruiting the right guys and trying to retain current commits and players already on the roster, and he’s hitting the portal to find players to help make Oregon a contender in 2022.
But that’s not it. He wants to connect with former players which is a great move if you want to build a strong, healthy program for the long term.
This VIP article on 247Sports’ headline says it all.
Obviously, if you want to read the details from what Lanning said, you’ll have to subscribe to 247Sports, but the headline says a lot. Saying it’s “essential” for him and his staff to develop relationships with alumni shows that Lanning is a coach who just gets it.
Lanning is doing and saying all the right things so far.
Can we play the games yet?
