Oregon Football head coach Dan Lanning met with the media during the final week of fall camp and discussed his starting quarterback, Phil Knight, and game-planning for the opener against the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs.

In his first season at the helm, Lanning isn’t giving up a single key detail ahead of the game later this week. When asked about his starting quarterback he simply said, “I’m not telling you.” He added that he will not be suiting up, but also said his reasoning for not letting the Duck out of the bag by adding there was really no advantage in doing so. We will have to wait.

As I have said, I fully expect that Bo Nix will be the guy. He was the best guy on the field in the Spring Game several months ago and has big game experience. Nix also has a connection with offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham which goes back to when they were both at Auburn. Nix should be the guy.

In both the spring and fall, the Ducks usually have special guests come in to help mentor or talk with the team. This past week, that guest was Phil Knight. Lanning said it was an honor to have Knight speak to this year’s team, “Everyone of us at Oregon is so blessed to have Phil (and Penny) associated with our program…with the example they set with what hard work gets you.”

Oregon football prepping for defending national champs

While fall camp has come to a close, the team will now enter prep week for the game against defending national champion, Georgia. Lanning talked about what that will look like, “Very similar to a normal game week. We’ll have an extra Monday and Tuesday practice, do true prep for Georgia.”

The team is confident entering this week, I think we know what we’re supposed to do. We want to use every minute for coaching. We’re going to use every minute to prepare to get better.”

One player he spoke about was Linebacker Justin Flowe, who has been working back from a foot injury. He said that Flowe has been pushing to get back on the field for the Ducks, “If it was up to Justin, he’d be running around with the boot out there on the field. That is no longer the case.” I expect Flowe to be good to go for this week against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Oregon and Georgia kick off the season on Saturday, September 3rd in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game at 12:30 pm Pacific Time on ABC.

All quotes were obtained during media availability with Dan Lanning on Thursday, August 25th.
