Oregon football: Rivalry game with Stanford set for Pac-12 After Dark
Oregon football will meet the Stanford Cardinal at Autzen Stadium for a late kickoff on Fox Sports 1 on November 1st. The Ducks will put their 15-game home winning streak against conference opponents on the line.
When I saw this announcement from GoDucks.com earlier this week, I was somewhat perplexed. Yes, Oregon and Stanford have played each other tough over the years, but this is not ‘those’ Stanford Cardinal teams. David Wright may also be on a warm seat, not as hot as the one that saw Herm Edwards let go last week after the Arizona State Sundevils lost.
The numbers both teams have on offense, now three games into the season may put things into better perspective. Entering this week, Stanford is 1-1 on the season traveling (for another night game) to face Washington, who handled Michigan State last weekend.
Stanford is a team that right now is still searching for an identity, while teams like Washington and Oregon seem to have found their identity for this season and are working on building off of it.
At 1-1, Stanford could also be seen as a dangerous team if you are not prepared. They have played that role very well against Oregon. Statistically, both teams are pretty close in key categories, The Ducks average 38 points per game, Stanford 35.
The Cardinal topped the Ducks in yards per game on offense with 469 to the Ducks’ 452. The Cardinal are also one of the least penalized teams so far in 2022 with 7 penalties in two games. The Ducks have played three and have 19 penalties.
Stanford enters this week with an 0-1 record in the Pac-12 after losing to USC last week. They may very likely be 0-2 when they come to Eugene next week which adds to my question of why is this an 8 pm kickoff. If the Ducks come away with the win, the answer doesn’t really matter.
This week, Oregon travels to Washington State to meet the Cougars at 1 pm Pacific Time on FOX.
