Bo Nix had a decision to make, and it was not a simple one. Nix was impressive for Oregon football in 2022 and the Ducks still have one game to go, their bowl matchup with North Carolina.

Nix announced on the Ducks Twitter account on Sunday night that he will be returning to play for Oregon football in 2023. It was a nice early Christmas present for Duck fans. Earlier in the day, Max Duggan from TCU announced that he will not be returning next season and will continue to prepare for the College Football Playoff with his team, but then turn his attention to the NFL Draft.

When Bo Nix arrived in Eugene, head coach Dan Lanning made sure that he would be comfortable playing in his first year in Eugene. He hired an offensive coordinator that knew Nix well in Kenny Dillingham. Both were together at Auburn and saw a less-than-stellar performance from Nix in his time there.

When the two reconnected in Eugene, it appeared that both had fun this season, getting the Ducks to nine wins so far and looking for a tenth in the Holiday Bowl.

Now, Dillingham is gone, heading home to Arizona to coach the Arizona State Sun Devils, so Nix will have to find a way to connect with a new offensive coordinator.

Bo Nix has what it takes to get Oregon back to the CFP

But Oregon football has Bo Nix, and he wants to finish what he started here, which is great news for Oregon fans. With the announcement, I expect he will start the Ducks bowl game vs the Tar Heels next week.

With Nix returning in 2023, the Pac-12 will be among the nation’s best when it comes to quarterbacks. USC’s Caleb Williams and Nix will be contending for a spot in the College Football Playoff. 2023 also marks a rotation change for the Pac-12 schedule. USC will visit Oregon next season. Date and time are yet to be determined.

North Carolina starting quarterback Drake Maye was rumored several weeks ago to be jumping into the transfer portal. He has announced he plans to return to North Carolina for next season.

Maye is considered among many to be a top quarterback prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft and could be a top draft selection along with USC Quarterback Caleb Williams. It is not known if Maye will play in the Holiday Bowl vs Oregon.

Oregon and North Carolina meet in the Holiday Bowl on December 28th at 5 pm Pacific Time on FOX.
