Oregon football absolutely demolished Colorado and brought their storybook start to the 2023 season to an end with a 42-6 win in front of a raucous crowd at Autzen Stadium.

It started as the most hyped game in the Pac-12 Conference this weekend with two top-twenty teams meeting inside Autzen Stadium. Deion Sanders brought his 3-0 Colorado Buffaloes to face the Oregon Ducks.

The pregame speech from Dan Lanning said it all. His quote laid the groundwork for success, “They are looking for clicks, we’re looking for wins.”

On the other side of the coin was Coach Prime’s postgame comment, “We played like hot garbage,” Sanders said. “Good old-fashioned butt-kicking. No excuses.”

Oregon football completely overmatched Colorado in every facet of the game

Oregon jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead to start the game. For most of the first quarter, the Ducks had the ball with Colorado having offensive possession for just over a minute for the quarter. The second fifteen minutes for Colorado was not much better.

The Buffaloes could not get their ground game going at all against Oregon and sat in negative yardage for the entire first half and into the second half as well.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was impressive in the 42-6 win, finishing his day midway through the third quarter. Nix had an interception in the game, but Colorado was not able to capitalize. The Ducks quarterback finished the game 28 for 33 through the air for 276 yards and two touchdowns, both to Troy Franklin who was targeted by Nix ten times on the day and caught the ball eight times.

Colorado struggled most of the day with the Ducks Defense. At halftime, while Oregon had five touchdowns, the Buffaloes had just four first downs in the game. Oregon made life tough for Colorado Quarterback Shedeur Sanders who did complete 70 percent of his passes on the day finishing 23 for 33. Sanders was sacked 7 times.

The Buffaloes were able to score a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, but the extra point was blocked. Oregon won the game 42-6 on a cloudy and cool afternoon in Eugene in front of over 59,000 fans and the sixth-largest crowd in Autzen Stadium history.

The Oregon football student section chanted ‘overrated’ throughout the game, especially in the final seconds of the game. Oregon put up 522 yards on the Buffaloes including 240 on the ground led by Bucky Irving who finished with 89 yards. Noah Whittington left the game with an undisclosed injury.

Colorado heads home with their first loss of the season and will face a tough task next week welcoming another top team to Boulder with the USC Trojans. Oregon hits the road next week to take on the Stanford Cardinal on the farm. Oregon will kick off on Saturday at 3:30 pm PT on Pac-12 Network.
