3 rapid reactions from Oregon football's thrilling win over No. 2 Ohio State
Saturday's top three matchup between Oregon football and Ohio State lived up to the hype. The game came down to the final seconds and the Ducks were able to hold on as Will Howard didn't see the clock as he tried to gain some extra yards and get Ohio State in field goal position to give Oregon a 32-31 win.
This was one of those games that will be talked about for months and it will have a direct impact on the College Football Playoff race and it could decide who plays for a Big Ten title.
Heck, this could be a preview of the Big Ten title game as these two teams look to be clear best in the conference as they played one of the tightest games of the year.
Here are some quick reactions to the 32-31 Oregon win.
1. Dillon Gabriel is right back in the Heisman conversation
Talk about a Heisman performance. All Dillon Gabriel did against one of the best defenses in the country was pass for over 300 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a huge score in the fourth quarter, adding 32 yards on the ground.
It's safe to say that Gabriel is right back in the Heisman conversation after looking like one of the best players in the country against the nation's No. 2 team.
Not many players can look this good against Ohio State -- ever.
2. These offensive weapons are national title-caliber
Looking at the offensive weapons that Oregon has, they're good enough to lead the Ducks to a national title this year and they're all finally hitting their stride at the same time.
You have Jordan James rushing for over 100 yards basically every week, Noah Whittington backing him up and being a perfect all-purpose back, when needed, and guys like Evan Stewart, Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, and Terrance Ferguson with the potential to go off in any given game. The amount of weapons that Gabriel has at his disposal is good enough to lead this team to a national title.
3. These are the two best teams in the Big Ten
It truly is no secret that Ohio State and Oregon football are the best teams in the conference and that was the presumption before the game and that notion was only solidified on Saturday night.
Ohio State and Oregon really battled back and forth all game long and both teams played well enough to win but thankfully it was the Ducks who came away with the thrilling victory thanks to an offensive pass interference and a clock management blunder by Will Howard.
I'd be shocked if these two teams don't meet back up in the Big Ten title game in December for an epic rematch.
