After losing to Oklahoma State, the Ducks have to play with more intensity and attention to detail which Dan Lanning is almost certainly drilling into the team. On Friday Night, the Oregon Ducks have no excuse to sleepwalk into the start of this game, and this should quickly become a blowout. If the Ducks are going to save the season, they need to play like a team fighting to win every game, and it should show up to start this game for the first time.
An extreme talent gap
On paper, the talent gap between both teams is massive, and this game even being close would signal real issues for Oregon. The Ducks should have the advantage at every position in this game, and if the backups get playing time, they should be more talented than their starters as well. It all comes down to execution, but the Ducks very clearly have the talent advantage in this matchup.
Portland State's woeful defense
Portland State is off to an 0-3 start to the season, and a big reason why is that the Vikings defense hasn't played well. The Vikings are allowing 43.7 points per game, and the Ducks' should be able to exploit that weakness. The biggest issue for the Ducks' passing attack last week was dropped passes, otherwise the game may have gone differently. This weekend if Dakorien Moore, Evan Stewart, and Jeremiah McClellan catch passes they could each surpass the 100 yard mark. The Ducks have shown they can still create explosives in the passing game even with the other struggles, and all the team needs is to execute better.
This is the week Oregon should finally find it's rushing attack
One of the biggest reasons for the Ducks' success last season was the consistency of the rushing attack and the ability to make big plays on the ground. This season, Jordon Davison hasn't looked himself while the offensive line hasn't been able to open the same holes keeping the team from dominating with the ground game. This weekend, Oregon has the talent advantage in the trenches, and it should lead to the best showing from the Ducks' rushing attack.
