The Oregon Ducks came into Saturday Afternoon looking to send a statement, facing off against the 12th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. While Ohio State jumped out to an early 14 point lead, Oregon responded by scoring 38 straight points, emptying out The Show with 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

The Ducks were counted out all week long, and on Saturday the team took a moment to get going, but once they found their rhythm they made a statement. Oregon didn't just beat Ohio State, they dropped 38 points on the Buckeyes defense, while making Jeremiah Smith a non-factor for most of this game.

After entering the week ranked 23rd in the College Football Playoff committee's rankings, Oregon should be vaulting up the rankings during the reveal next week. While the Playoff still seems a long way off, winning this game makes it a possibility and brings hope to the month of November.

5 Winners from Oregon's thrilling upset win over Ohio State

Dan Lanning - Head Coach

This has been far from an easy task for Dan Lanning as a head coach, with Dante Moore's injury and the offense's struggles. When things looked like this game could go South for the Ducks, Dan Lanning coached with some serious guts, and every gamble gave the team the belief that they could go out and win the game. Oregon hasn't met the lofty expectations this team had coming into the year, but after this upset win, the Ducks have a chance to leap from 23rd in the College Football Playoff rankings and contend for a bid in the postseason.

Teitum Tuioti - Edge Rusher

When Oregon needed a big play, Dan Lanning called the number of his star pass rusher with a fake punt snapped to Teitum Tuioti. With defenders in his face, Tuioti could've easily panicked, but he instead floated the ball beautifully to Matayo Uiagalelei to give the Ducks the spark they needed to takeover the game. Add in the pressure Tuioti made rushing the passer, and the solid plays he made in coverage, and you don't win a game like this without the veteran.

On the other end of the fake punt call was edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei, who didn't panic with the ball coming his way, coming through with the catch to convert on the risk. Not only did Uiagalelei make the catch, but he looked like he watched some Kenyon Sadiq film, rumbling for 30 yards with a hurdle after the catch. Add in the sack on Ohio State's last-ditch effort in the 4th quarter, and it was another great showing for the Senior.

Devin Jackson - Cornerback

After Dan Lanning's gutsy decision to go with a fake punt, Ryan Day was clearly pressing to try and add to the Buckeyes' lead before Oregon got the ball to start the second half. Day trusted Luke Fahey, and the freshman made a freshman mistake, throwing into a crowd of Ducks. Devin Jackson rose above the rest and somehow got a foot in bounds, setting Oregon up to score right before the half.

Dierre Hill Jr. - Running Back

The Ducks played this game without starting running back Jordon Davison, and as the offensive line struggled to open holes, a ton of pressure was on Dylan Raiola. On the opening drive of the second half, Dierre Hill Jr. took matters into his own hands with a 48-yard touchdown, which felt like the dagger for the Buckeyes. Hill rose to the occasion, finishing with 75 yards on 13 carries and 2 touchdowns to help power the offense to the win.

Ryan Day is the biggest loser as Oregon ends Ohio State's season

This game was going to say a ton about both coaches, as both teams were without their starting quarterbacks and several key players. Dan Lanning coached to win the game, rolling the dice any chance he could to try to give his team any chance to win the game. Ryan Day, on the other hand, lost what his team did well, and when Oregon adjusted, his staff had no answers.

This game came with massive College Football Playoff and Big Ten stakes, and Oregon came ready for the battle, but the Buckeyes folded the moment the momentum favored the Ducks. Given the rise Oregon has made since joining the Big Ten, Day and Lanning are often compared, and now that the Ducks are recruiting at an elite level and this roster will be loaded year over year, you have to love the edge Oregon could have in this matchup.
