Saturday was a disaster for Oregon as the stunning loss to Oklahoma State has knocked the Ducks to 1-1, and has seemingly wiped away the hopes of winning the National Championship. The team came into the year as frontrunners to win the National Championship, but through two games the team has shown major cracks.
As players who were penciled into starting roles have struggled, Dan Lanning and the staff have even turned to some of the younger players looking to find success. Part of the issue for Oregon thus far is that 7 incoming transfers haven't made much of an impact to help on either side of the ball.
The 7 Oregon transfers who need to start performing
Iverson Hooks - Wide Receiver - UAB
The Oregon Ducks went out and added just 1 experienced weapon, bringing in UAB transfer Iverson Hooks coming off a breakout year. Hooks missed the season opener, but was expected to make his debut this weekend after warming up with the team. Instead, Hooks didn't receive any snaps in this game, while true freshmen Messiah Hampton and Hudson Lewis got snaps in this game.
Carl Williams IV - STAR - Baylor
Carl Williams IV got blamed for allowing the opening touchdown in the season opener, but Dan Lanning was quick to clear up that it wasn't his fault. In Week 2, Williams' performance wasn't great as he allowed 3 catches on 5 targets for 67 yards. Oregon needs someone to step up in the STAR position as freshman Davon Benjamin has struggled in coverage as well.
Michael Bennett III - Offensive Line - Yale
The Ducks went out and added just one offensive lineman to replace the talent departing for the NFL Draft, adding Yale transfer Michael Bennett III. In the season opener, Michael Bennett III started at guard and had an up-and-down performance. After the struggles in Week 1, Bennett played just one snap, as it appears he's not among the best options on the line.
Aaron Scott Jr - Cornerback
Oregon went out this offseason and added Ohio State transfer Aaron Scott Jr to the secondary, giving Dan Lanning another option in coverage. Scott came with limited experience at Ohio State, but he did play over the last two seasons. Through two games, Scott has yet to play for the Ducks, and with the woes in coverage, that's telling.
Simeon Price - Running Back - Colorado
As Oregon's rushing attack struggled to create big plays, the team even gave Da'Juan Riggs a carry on Saturday. While 3 backs played, Simeon Price reportedly wasn't even brought on the trip with the team after being brought in via the Transfer Portal.
Markus Dixon - Tight End
While Oregon's younger tight ends played in the absence of Jamari Johnson, Clemson transfer Markus Dixon is clearly lower on the depth chart. Markus Dixon played just 1 snap, as it's starting to become clear the veteran addition to the room isn't at the level the Ducks need talent wise.
Andrew Olesh - Tight End
When Jamari Johnson was ruled out, Andrew Olesh was given a chance to be the Ducks' starting tight end, and prove that he deserves more playing time. On 48 snaps, Andrew Olesh managed just 1 catch for 9 yards while struggling at times as a blocker. The Ducks needed someone to emerge as a target that could settle Moore down on Saturday, but Olesh wasn't that player.
