The 2028 recruiting cycle is about to pick up steam as the start of the college football season will ramp things up with top recruits taking visits around the Country. The Oregon Ducks appear to be set to continue the streak of signing a top 5 class nationally in the 2027 cycle, but building the 2028 class starts now.
Thus far, Dan Lanning and his staff haven't landed a commitment in the cycle, but that could change at any moment with the way the Ducks recruit. One of the first priorities in any recruiting cycle is getting a quarterback in place as they become the biggest recruiters for the coaching staff. Heading into the Fall, Oregon appears to be positioned perfectly to land their top target in the cycle.
Josiah Boyd optimisim continues to build for Oregon
When the Oregon Ducks first offered Josiah Boyd a scholarship, and he declared that Oregon had always been a dream school, it instantly made him a top prospect for the staff to watch.
Several analysts have logged predictions for Oregon to win out for the highly talented quarterback throughout the summer, but when it comes to recruiting analysts, few are as respected as Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. On Wednesday, Steve Wiltfong joined his Rivals colleagues, predicting Dan Lanning and the staff will win out, building more excitement in this recruitment.
According to Rivals’ Recruiting Rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 31st ranked player in the Country, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 4th ranked player out of California.
Last season, Josiah Boyd went 172-278 passing for 2,620 yards and 19 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions. Boyd is a dual-threat quarterback who picked up 462 yards and 9 touchdowns rushing, making him a great fit for the Oregon offense. Early in his Junior season, Josiah Boyd is already showing the talent that makes him one of the top prospects in the Country.

Josiah Boyd currently has a visit to Eugene scheduled for September 18th after planned visits to LSU and USC which could make it a weekend to watch for a potential commitment.
While the Ducks will lose Dante Moore after this season, the quarterback pipeline the staff has built should have everyone excited for the future. Dylan Raiola, Brock Thomas, and Akili Smith Jr will all have a chance to earn the starting role as will current commit Will Mencl if he signs with the Ducks. Josiah Boyd will have a chance to make that pipeline even more exciting with all he can bring to the table.
