When they played head-to-head the Ducks swept the Beavers in four games.
But when the NCAA Baseball Tournament bracket was released Monday morning, the Beavers got a No. 8 seed while Oregon was slotted at 12. The Ducks won the regular season Big Ten Championship, they're ranked higher in all three major polls but OSU (41-12-1) got the direct route to hosting a Super Regional.
That means both teams will host a Regional, the Ducks taking the field in a double-elimination set against Utah Valley, Cal Poly and Arizona beginning Friday night at PK Park.
The winner of each regional advances to the Super Regional, a best two-out-three series at the home stadium of the higher seed. That means if chalk holds, Oregon would travel to 5-seed North Carolina for their Super Regional, a best two-out-of-three series for the right to go to Omaha.
First they have to get past Utah Valley, Cal Poly and Arizona. All three of them won their conference tournament this season.
The Ducks had an 11-game winning streak snapped when they fell to Nebraska 7-3 Saturday morning in a rain-delayed game at the Big Ten Tournament. They went 42-14 this season, 22-8 in conference play, 28-8 at home.
They hit .294 as a team with 107 home runs. Swing starter Ian Umlandt led the Big Ten in ERA at 2.12, good for a 6-1 record. Friday pitcher Grayson Grinsell posted a 9-3 record with a 2.62 ERA, striking out 99 in 92.2 innings.
