Bo Nix displays heart as Denver's Magic Man

Mom, apple pie and fourth quarter comebacks: Denver quarterback Bo Nix remains Oregon's All-American boy, married to his college sweetheart, a former Auburn cheerleader. If he wasn't so authentic it'd be a little nauseating.

Bo Nix has grown up in a hurry. In just his second year he's engineered an NFL-record eight fourth quarter comebacks, the latest coming on Sunday as he led the Broncos on two field goal drives in the last 4:10 to beat Patrick Mahomes and defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 22-19.

With 54 seconds to play the backyard whiz kid from Pinson, Alabama hit Duck teammate Troy Franklin with a 32-yard pass down to the 15 to set up Will Lutz's fifth field goal on the last snap of the game, good from 32 yards.

It was another touch of John Elway magic from Nix, who was booed by the Denver fans just a week ago, right before last week's comeback. Thanks to one of the NFL's best defenses he and the Broncos offense have done just enough to win eight straight on their way to a 9-2 record, good for a two-game lead over Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL West.

Mahomes and the Chiefs fell to 5-5, in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Nix can struggle in the first half the way Joey Harrington used to with the Ducks, but in the fourth quarter he's Captain Comeback, a trait that can frustrate fans. Sunday he was 24-37 passing for 295 yards, without a touchdown or an interception.

Despite the flack and rumblings of criticism his teammates have complete confidence in him. Tight end Adam Trautman told reporters after the game, “If you’re talking (expletive) about Bo online, you’re a coward."

"Absolute coward. … He blanks it out … We don’t care what other people think. We know what we have in the building, and we know what he’s made of, and we don’t really care what people have to say, so, Dragonslayer69 with his 7-11 Slurpee in his mom’s basement, I don’t give a (expletive) what he has to say, right? And Bo doesn’t, either.”

Any more questions? The Broncos have a bye until November 30 when they host Marcus Mariota and the Commanders. Denver is a perfect 6-0 in Bo's new backyard, 3-2 on the road.
