Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life, Oregon is going to be the new Tight End U.
In back-to-back years Terrance Ferguson and Kenyon Sadiq crushed the combine. Jamari Johnson caught 32 passes for 510 yards last season, one of the best returning tight ends in college football, while North Carolina 5-star Kendre Harrison just completed his first set of spring practices as a true freshman.
Visiting Oregon this weekend, four-star tight end Anthony Cartwright III is a three-sport star with a 3.8 GPA. His dad played basketball at Michigan State. He decides June 28 between the Ducks, Michigan, the Spartans, LSU and Miami.
As the No. 408 recruit and No. 20 tight end in the 247Sports Composite, Cartwright is criminally underrated.
Big-play ability pops off the film
Tacklers bounce off him. Others he sends to the ground with a nasty stiff arm. He moves well, runs good routes and catches the football high and low with nice natural hands, the way a power forward would gliding through the lane.
The junior from Detroit County Day High School is a matchup nightmare at 6-5, 235. His high school coach lines him up at tight end, wide receiver or in the slot, even occasionally at quarterback. Cornerbacks can't guard him and linebackers can't keep up. He beats double and triple teams.
Watching the tape, Oregon fans will think of Johnson, Ferguson or Pharaoh Brown. Though not freakishly athletic and explosive as Kenyon Sadiq (Few athletes in history are.) Cartwright plays with confidence, a good sense of what he's doing on the field.

Curtis Blackwell II of the Sound Body, Sound Mind Training told Ethan McDowell of On3 Sports, “That's the type of athlete that you really want to have on your team because he likes to work."
He'll announce his decision on June 28. Kyle Whittingham and Michigan want desperately to keep him in state, a good fit for the old Ute offense with its emphasis on the running game and multiple tight ends. Though Cartwright's dad played roundball for the Spartans, he's not exerting undue influene. LSU and Miami will put in attractive bids.
Despite this, the Ducks have the edge as he wraps up his visit. In May he told Max Torres of On3, "That shows what Oregon is beginning to get done in the tight end room."
Though Cartwright is a dedicated and effective blocker, the exciting thing about him is the way he catches the football, particularly over the middle. He racks up yards after the catch and creates big plays in a way that will make George Wrighster and Justin Peelle proud.
