The Oregon Ducks had a quiet weekend compared to what we've seen as of late on the recruiting trail. After reeling in 3 commitments last weekend, the Ducks hadn't made any big splashes which felt unusual. The biggest knock on the Ducks haul this Summer was the fact that most of the recent commitments were 3-star recruits which isn't what gets the fanbase excited.
While the Ducks picked up some smaller commitments, Dan Lanning and the Ducks continued making progress with some of their top targets. When Oregon's top recruiting target regardless of position quietly announced he'd be committing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, it gave the Ducks a reason to celebrate.
Oregon outduels Michigan for elite WR recruit Dakota Guerrant
On Tuesday Morning in Eugene and Tuesday Afternoon for Dakota Guerrant in Michigan, the elite wide receiver announced his commitment to the Ducks as Dan Lanning outdueled Kyle Whittingham for the Michigan Native.

Landing Dakota Guerrant is arguably the biggest win of the recruiting cycle for Dan Lanning and the Ducks alongside the pickup of Will Mencl. Oregon has made Guerrant a priority the entire recruiting cycle to the point that Rivals' Steve Wiltfong has said that Guerrant was the Ducks top recruiting target regardless of position.
"This young man is at the top of their board regardless of position, Dakota Guerrant out of Michigan."Steve Wiltfong
After announcing the decision, Dakota Guerrant shared that Oregon was always his dream school growing up.
"This was always my dream school growing up. Then they started recruiting, it felt like family from the start. I just kept building things with them, and how they're producing, things like that, I've kind of seen myself there from the start."Dakota Guerrant
All the signs pointed towards Oregon winning out, and they never allowed the Wolverines to take the lead for a player out of their backyard. Michigan has stepped up big time for recruits financially, yet Dan Lanning showed that he gets any top recruit he makes a major push for which should scare Michigan along with everyone else.
This may not be the last time Oregon dips into Michigan this cycle as the Ducks are after elite tight end Anthony Cartwright.
At the High School level, it's clear that Dakota Guerrant best projects as a wide receiver, but he's also played safety and quarterback while making big plays as a kick returner. The best aspect of Guerrant's game is his ability as a route runner while he has the physical tools to continue rounding into form as a prospect.
According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Dakota Guerrant is the 38th ranked player in the country, the 7th ranked wide receiver in the class, and the top player out of the state of Michigan. At 38th in the Country, Dakota Guerrant is just 6 places off being a 5-star recruit, and by the end of the cycle, he'll likely earn 5 star status.
The goal for the Ducks is now locking up some of their other top targets on the recruiting trail. The big names every Oregon fan is keeping close tabs on are defensive back Hayden Stepp along with Xavier Sabb as the two have been clear priorities. Stepp just took his visit to Eugene while Sabb will start his official visit on Friday, giving the Ducks a chance to go on a serious run over the next several weeks.
