Heading into the 2026 College Football season, Oregon has National Championship or bust expectations. Dan Lanning has led the team to back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff since arriving in the Big Ten, and while the trips are nice, all the fans want to see is the program finally hoist the National Championship trophy.
Dan Lanning arrived at Oregon with a tough task as he replaced Mario Cristobal who left for his alma mater Miami. Both sides have achieved a ton of success with their new coaches as Miami just played for the National Championship while Oregon is coming off back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff.
Mario Cristobal and Dan Lanning will now battle as the two look like the two coaches best positioned to win their first National Championship. As the duo continue to duel on the recruiting trail, in the Transfer Portal, and maybe on the field, their elite rosters are on full display.

The Ducks offense has all the talent a team could ask for starting with Dante Moore returning at the quarterback position. Moore could've been a first round pick this offseason, but he opted to return, and with a full season of experience under his belt, he could win the Heisman for the Ducks next season.
Moore will have plenty of weapons to work with in his hunt for the Heisman starting with a potential 1st round pick at tight end in Jamari Johnson. Evan Stewart returns after his torn ACL, and if he could refind his form he'll be in the conversation for the Nation's top wide receiver. Add in the solid running back duo and weapons like Dakorien Moore, Jeremiah McClellan, Gatlin Bair, Iverson Hooks, and Jalen Lott, and Oregon can throw a ton of weapons at opposing defenses.
The biggest question surrounding the Oregon offense is the offensive line, otherwise this would be the clear top unit in the country. The Ducks return the Nation’s best center Iapani Laloulu, but also have to replace a pair of offensive tackles along with their left guard. Oregon has plenty of promising pieces to fill the roles from transfer Michael Bennett to 5-star freshman Emmanuel Iheanacho, but the unit will have to prove itself on the field.
It’s easy to see why Miami’s offense earned the top spot even if Oregon could've taken the edge over the Canes. Miami spent big to bring in elite quarterback Darian Mensah and brought his star wide receiver Cooper Barkate with him. The Canes also return a phenom wide receiver in Malachi Toney and a star running back in Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal are elite at developing offensive linemen, but they'll need to prove it like Oregon will. Francis Mauigoa, Markel Bell, and Anez Cooper all left for the NFL, but like Oregon the Canes bring in a 5-star freshman along with several other pieces who can fill the holes in the offensive line.
College football is a sport built on the drama, and as Miami looks to officially bring back "The U" with a championship and Oregon looks to finally reach the peak, it'll only be fitting if the two sides end up clashing this winter with true championship stakes on the line.
