It's official, the Oregon Ducks have virtually cemented their place in the College Football Playoffs after defeating their rivals, the Washington Huskies, to finish the year with an 11-1 overall record and an 8-1 record against Big Ten opponents.

While the Ducks wouldn't make a back-to-back appearance in the Big Ten Championship game, head coach Dan Lanning was more than proud of his team and what it had accomplished.

After Oregon earned the 26-14 win over Washington, Lanning made sure to explain exactly how he made sure his players had the right mindset going into the rivalry matchup.

Dan Lanning is fully in his 'villian' era

We talked about being the villain this week, and we gotta put our mask on and go into somebody else's territory," Lanning said right after beating UW in Seattle. "Our guys did that today.

Throughout his four-year career as the Ducks' head coach, Lanning has gone 2-3 against the Huskies, including this weekend's win. This victory was his first over Washington on the road and the second rivalry win in a row.

Oregon peaking just before the offseason

While the game was low-scoring, the Ducks were nearly flawless on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Dante Moore earned 286 passing yards and one touchdown on 20 completions (68.97 percent), as well as earning 11 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

The Washington defense slowed the Ducks' running game down slightly, but Noah Whittington, Dierre Hill Jr., and Jordon Davison still combined for 95 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, the usual suspects were as dominant as ever. Bryce Boettcher, Dillon Thieneman, Aaron Flowers, and Teitum Tuioti led the team in tackles and combined for 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Thieneman picked off Husky quarterback Demond Williams Jr. to seal the deal on the win, joining fellow defensive back Jadon Canady, who had an interception earlier in the game.

Now, the Ducks will most likely have to prepare for their first-round game in the College Football Playoffs, which Oregon will probably host at their home, Autzen Stadium.
