Believe it or not, the beloved Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has a slight flaw on his coaching resume and his life story: He had a fall wedding.
The cardinal sin in college football is when your best friend, a family member, or a loved one has a wedding on the same day as the big game. Trust me, I'm also a Longhorns fan and attended a wedding that started just 30 minutes before Texas kicked off against Georgia.
Just a few days ago, Lanning posted a photo of himself and his wife, Sauphia, wishing them a happy 15th anniversary. This means... a decade and a half ago... Dan and Sauphia got hitched... in the middle of the college football season.
Immediately, fans of any team other than Oregon started ripping into the Ducks' head coach, even going as far as to say that he should be fired for committing the heinous "crime."
After Oregon's Friday-night win over Purdue, ESPN College GameDay kicked off the Saturday slate of games and even included a segment about fall weddings. As people laughed at the skit, one fan came up with the idea that whoever Oregon plays next with GameDay in attendance should have a sign pointing out Lanning's flaw.
All jokes aside, Lanning is loved by everyone who interacts with him. His story and his family's story are special. Sauphia beat cancer just a few years ago and to them, family means everything. However, hopefully, their sons learn that dad may not be able to attend their weddings if they happen in the fall.
