Dan Lanning is staying put in Oregon but his buyout is still noteworthy

Don't worry, Dan Lanning isn't leaving Eugene anytime soon and this article isn't about how much Oregon has to shell out to get rid of him. However, aren't you curious about just how big Lanning's buyout is?
Lanning was officially named as the Ducks' new head coach on Dec. 11, 2021, and hasn't looked back. Through Week 10 of the 2024 season, he has gone 30-5 overall with Oregon and the team is currently undefeated in its first season as a part of the Big Ten.

To be transparent, Lanning's buyout is the ninth-largest in all of college football. Currently, his buyout is resting at $45,366,667. It's not exactly pocket change. In fact, as a third-year head coach, Lanning's buyout is massive for such a young coach.

Lanning's buyout is the third-biggest in the Big Ten, only behind Nebraska's Matt Rhule and Penn State's James Franklin. The next largest buyout in the conference is first-year head coach Jedd Fisch at Washington, whose buyout is $40,239,960.
Dan Lanning's salary and contract details
Before the 2023-24 season began, Lanning signed a one-year extension with the Ducks to ensure his stay in Eugene through 2028. This year, Lanning is set to make $7 million, a raise from his previous annual salary of $4.7 million in his original contract at Oregon.
For the longevity of his career in Eugene, for each regular season in which he wins 10 games with the team, he will receive (up to three) automatic one-year extensions with Oregon as well as a $500,000 bonus for winning the College Football Playoff National Championship.
