Dan Lanning provides concerning injury update for Tez Johnson
Injuries have been piling up big-time for Oregon football this season and that remained the case on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor as the Ducks lost one of their best players in the first quarter.
After a big hit that he took on the third play of the game after an 11-yard reception, Tez Johnson left the game and never returned as he was spotted later in street clothes on the sideline with a sling on his shoulder. The injury didn't look good as he got tackled and slammed on his right shoulder which made the announcers speculate that it could be collarbone related.
Still, fans were hopeful that he was just being held out as a precaution for later in the season.
But when Dan Lanning was asked about the Johnson injury after the game, he didn't give the most encouraging answer. Actually, what he said was rather concerning.
"Still figuring it out. I don't have any details right now. (Johnson) wasn't available to come back into the game. This guy is a winner in every piece of that word, which is what it means to be a winner. Tez is that for us."
- Dan Lanning
The first part of the quote isn't all that concerning although if it wasn't that serious, he likely would've said that which makes me think it could be a long-term issue. Plus, he made sure to give Johnson props for being a winner and propped him up which coaches don't usually do unless they feel like they may be without that player for a while.
This is all speculation right now, but this Lanning quote and the subsequent Dillon Gabriel quote where he said he "feels bad" for Johnson doesn't seem that positive.
Let's hope it's just a small injury and he'll be back next week.
