JJ Frakes, a shooting guard in the class of 2025, gave his verbal commitment to Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks on Monday, Dec. 16 – just a few days after the Ducks gave him his first Division I offer. Frakes, who is from Berrien Springs, MI, has also heard from Oregon State as well as schools a little closer to home like Cincinnati, Iowa, Purdue, and Illinois. Currently, Frakes is in the midst of his senior season but the young star averaged 24 points per game during his junior year.
Most impressively, Frakes shot an impressive 45 percent from the field while draining an astonishing 35.5 percent from beyond the arc during his junior season. Reports have Frakes scoring an average 25 points per game so far in his senior year.
At 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, Frakes already has the build of many collegiate players – larger than Oregon's current starting point guard Jackson Shelstad who clocks in at 6-foot-0 and 170 pounds.
After meeting with Altman and the Ducks, the young player received a scholarship offer from the Oregon head coach – one he apparently can't pass up on as of now. While a verbal commitment is far from binding, especially in the modern era of collegiate sports, it is a step in the right direction for Altman and his staff. Currently,
Frakes is Altman's first commitment so far in the class – industry rankings for team classes has yet to be updated since Frakes' committment to Oregon.
