DB Tyler Turner enters the transfer portal after playing 13 games for the Ducks
By Sam Fariss
Redshirt freshman defensive back Tyler Turner became the third Oregon Duck to enter his name into the winter transfer portal on Wednesday. Turner joined true freshmen Jac'Qawn McRoy and Jaxson Jones in the portal.
Turner, who played in four games during his true freshman season, played in just nine games during his redshirt freshman year. However, the young defensive back earned seven total tackles and one pass deflection throughout the 2024 regular season.
During his true freshman season, Turner only earned one pass deflection throughout his brief appearances as he and head coach Dan Lanning worked to maintain his redshirt eligibility – an athlete must participate in no more than four games throughout the football season.
Other Oregon transfer portal news
While three young Ducks have entered their names into the transfer portal over the past few days, Oregon has already garnered a lot of attention from high-level talent across the country. Elite wideout Johntay Cook II from the Texas Longhorns is eyeing the Ducks as well as talented cornerback Julian Humphrey from the Georgia Bulldogs.
So far, the Ducks have yet to receive an official commitment from any athletes in the portal. The winter transfer portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9 and it will close on Saturday, Dec. 28. The spring transfer portal does not open until mid-April and is open for about two weeks.
Other Oregon recruiting news
Currently, Lanning holds the second-highest-ranked 2025 recruiting class and the top recruiting class in 2026. The Ducks, who are still weeks away from their first College Football Playoff game of the postseason, the Rose Bowl Game, are looking primed to excel for years to come in the Big Ten.
