The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Oregon Ducks programs have been intertwined a lot this offseason. After Dylan Raiola announced his decision to leave Nebraska, and picked the Oregon Ducks both fanbases have gone back and forth over the quarterback. While the fanbases have been divided as of late, the two used to agree on plenty of issues.
The biggest way Oregon fans and Nebraska fans used to bond was over the shared dislike of Mike Riley. The distain from the Oregon side was fair given that Riley spent two separate tenures in-state coaching the Oregon State Beavers. Riley taking the Nebraska job allowed Oregon fans to laugh at the Beavers for losing their head coach while the Huskers hated Riley for going 19-19 in 3 seasons.
Mike Riley catches heat again in Matt Rhule debate
As Matt Rhule heads into his 4th season at the helm, Nebraska fans are still debating over whether or not he's the man for the job. ESPN's Heather Dinich released an article after speaking with Nebraska AD Troy Dannen, laying out how the Huskers will give Rhule the time he needs to build up the program.
Troy Dannen claiming Nebraska was too quick to the trigger on firing coaches in the past has Huskers fans' led by 93.7 The Ticket claiming that Nebraska has actually been patient with their coaches.
Troy Dannen in an article put out by ESPN's Heather Dinich: "Nebraska has harmed itself in the past by being too quick to react when things didn't happen soon enough instead of giving enough time for the coach to build the program."

In the case of Mike Riley who's directly named, it's almost certain that the Huskers were fast to act whether it was the right decision or the wrong decision. Riley had a solid second season going 9-4, but after going 4-8 in his 3rd season, Nebraska fired him after 3 seasons at the helm.
The real reason that Nebraska likely acted so quickly was to ensure they landed Scott Frost before he took a different job. After his 13-0 season, it was clear that Frost was going to get scooped up by a bigger program, and it likely played a bigger role in Riley's firing than his record.
In the end, no one gets a bigger laugh at the debate and the overall outcome than the Oregon fans. Not only did Mike Riley leave the Beavers, but he set the program back in a big way. Since Riley's departure, Gary Andersen was a disaster hire, Jonathan Smith struggled before posting one big season and leaving, and Trent Bray was a disaster.
Nebraska fans may not like Mike Riley, but Oregon fans do get to have a great laugh at what he did to the Ducks' in-state rival.
