Despite difficult CFP route, No. 1 Oregon Ducks favored to win National Championship
By Sam Fariss
The Oregon Ducks pulled off a flawless regular season and captured the Big Ten Championship in their first season as a part of the conference. Now, the No. 1 Ducks (who have gone 13-0 so far this season) have to take on one of the hardest paths to the National Championship out of any other team in the College Football Playoffs.
Despite being the only undefeated team in the bracket, and the top-ranked program in the nation, the Ducks will have an extremely difficult path to the Natty – even with a bye in the first round.
However, even with fortune stacked against them, the odds are in Oregon's favor. Currently, the Ducks are tied with the Texas Longhorns to win the National Championship (both sitting at +360 odds), according to FanDuel.
The Ducks and the Longhorns actually have a chance to meet in the semifinal round of the Playoffs – at the Cotton Bowl. However, in order for the matchup to take place, Texas has to knock out the Clemson Tigers and the Arizona State Sun Devils while Oregon has to defeat the winner of the Ohio State-Tennessee first-round game.
Oregon's hunt for the national title won't begin until the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2025, at the Rose Bowl Game – which the Ducks are fairly familiar with.
Not only have the Ducks played at the Rose Bowl anytime they have faced the UCLA Bruins in conference play over the last few decades, but Oregon was also in the Rose Bowl Game just five years ago when quarterback Justin Herbert and his team defeated the Wisconsin Badgers in the postseason. matchup
Oregon and the winner of the Buckeyes versus Volunteers game will kick off at 2 p.m. PT from Pasadena on ESPN.
