Dillon Thieneman's first career interception helps Bears secure shocking upset win

Monday Night Football brought a matchup between two Super Bowl hopefuls, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears. The Bears came into the matchup needing an all-in effort as Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring strain last weekend, while backup quarterback Tyson Bagent spent the weekend in concussion protocol. With Case Keenum starting for the Bears, the team needed contributions from everyone to secure the win.

The Bears were waiting for the first big play from their 1st round pick, Dillon Thieneman, who shockingly fell to them with the 25th overall pick in the NFL Draft. When the Bears needed a play early in Monday Night's game, Thieneman showed the ability that made him a superstar at the college level, and it should only continue to make him an impactful player at the next level.

With Andy Dalton in the game, the Eagles couldn't tush push their way into the endzone, forcing Nick Sirianni to put the ball in his veteran's hands. On 3rd and Goal, Andy Dalton thought Dontayvion Wicks worked open, but Dillon Thieneman jumped the route to haul in his first interception.

The moment proved to be pivotal for the Bears as it kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for the time being after a 95 yard drive. The interception also sparked the Bears' offense to drive down the field on an 11 play drive to kick a field goal, extending the lead to 10 and forcing the Eagles out of their dangerous rushing attack, making Jalen Hurts a passer where struggled immensely in this game, missing a ton of throws and taking two sacks.

Dillon Thieneman played a massive role in the Bears' 27-7 win, leading the team with 6 tackles along with an interception. It's starting to look like the game is slowing down for Dillon Thieneman, and the sky is the limit once he gets going. On the season, Thieneman is up to 23 total tackles, 15 solo tackles, 2 pass defenses, and an interception.

Given that QB Caleb Williams could be out for several weeks, the Bears are going to need this defense to step up and help keep the season afloat. The next three games should be winnable even if Williams isn't available, as the Bears will face the New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, and the Atlanta Falcons, all of whom have struggled at times, and have losing records on the season.

Ben Johnson's offense is going to find ways to score points regardless of who's at quarterback, but it's going to come down to the defense limiting the opponent. Takeaways were massive for the Bears last season, and if Dillon Thieneman can start to force turnovers, it would go a long way for Chicago as they try to tread water as they deal with quarterback injuries.
