Football breaks your heart. In the summer there's the anticipation and the hopefulness, then before you know it it's Senior Night.

One of the rare pleasures of the late season is a crisp fall day where your team has a win tucked away from a Friday night game and you can watch a college football Saturday with some mixed nuts and your favorite beverage without worry or much at stake.

The Ducks had a comfortable win Friday night in which Dante Moore set a new Oregon single game record for passing accuracy, completing 27-30 for 300 yards, 90 percent, surpassing Marcus Mariota in 2012 at 88.2 percent.

It's a pretty good night when a team wins 42-13, piles up scoring runs of 39 and 40 yards and leads 21-3 five minutes into the second quarter.

Saturday offered some close calls and interesting games but so far no earthshaking upsets. Iowa jumped out ahead of USC 21-7 but faded in the second half. No. 11 Oklahoma surged ahead of No. 4 Alabama 10-0 and 17-7 but the Tide surged back before a fourth quarter Sooner field goal made it 23-21 OU.

The Ducks host SC next Saturday with a playoff spot on the line. The key to beating them has to be getting some pressure on Jayden Maiava, their rifle-armed quarterback. Maiava's superb outside receivers Makai Lemon and Jakobi Lane are a load for anyone, adept at bringing down 50/50 balls or drawing pass interfence flags. They lean into the contact like an NBA superstar driving the lane in the fourth quarter.

In College Station No. 3 Texas A&M escaped an upset bid by South Carolina 31-30. Further down the Top 25 No. 16 Georgia Tech erupted for 16 points in the fourth quarter to escape Boston College, SC outscored the Hawkeyes 16-0 in the second half to win 26-21,

Against Iowa Trojan quarterback Jayden Maiava had time to survey the field and bounce on his toes in the pocket. Teitum Tuioti, Matayo Uiaglelei and Bear Alexander have to create some pressure and disruption or Lemon and Lane could be a problem, a new level of test for the young Oregon secondary.

The rankings bombshell happened in Tuscaloosa. No. 11 Oklahoma upset No. 4 Alabama 23-21, both teams ending the day 8-2.
