Toa Satele, the 6-3, 200 linebacker from Mililani High School, was so impressed with his Oregon official visit that he committed right after, turning down visits to California, Notre Dame and Texas. He eliminated USC back in May.

The No. 4 linebacker in the country and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Hawaii, his fast decision shows the power of Oregon's recruiting operation. Satele told On3 Sports, "When you know you know, and I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time."

He had official visits planned to Berkeley, South Bend and Austin, but the plan and the proposal at Oregon negated them. He becomes the 14th commitment in the 2027 class and the third linebacker after 6-2, 216 Brandon Lockley out of St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia and Sam Ngata of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Satele is the son of an NFL player, Samson Satele, who played eight years in the league with Miami, Indianapolis and the Raiders.

Samson "Toa" Satele Jr. is a slashing linebacker with good speed and instincts, tremendous position versatility. Depending on how he develops he might stay at outside linebacker, move inside or become an edge rusher. His film shows outstanding pursuit and desire, though he'll have to apply himself to become bigger and stronger to become most effective in the Oregon defense.

The work habits and instincts for the game are exceptional, a top prospect ranked No. 63 in the 247Sports Composite.

The Ducks have been busy on the defense. So far the 2027 class includes nine defensive players, five on offense, and Oregon's top three commits are all on defense, in a class that currently ranks No. 12 in the country.

Satele's recruitment continues the trend toward a new identity for Chris Hampton's defense, fast, flexible players with a big toolkit, athletes who can run and cover and be disruptive. He's a playmaker and a student of the game.

Asked to describe his playing style for fans and potential coaches, Satele said, "They're going to see somebody that has good pre-snap reads, someone that has a nose for the ball, knows where it's going before the play even starts, and just breaking on breaking on the ball wherever it is."

With a surge in June and July, Dan Lanning is on track for another Top Five class. Recent visits by five-star Texas running back Landon Callis-Williams and elite edge rusher KJ Green could rocket the momentum up to 11. The Ducks made a strong pitch to 6-5, 320 offensive lineman Caden Moss this weekend as well, but that should be a pitched battle into August.
