Mater Dei defensive tackle Tomuhini Topui decommitted Tuesday, dropping Oregon's 2026 recruiting class down to eight players. Topui, a four-star, 6-3, 290 prospect committed to Oregon last October but recently he's gotten heavy attention from USC.

Quick and powerful, he's rated the No. 127 overall recruit in the country and the No. 5 defensive tackle. Blair Angulo of 247Sports broke the news on social media.

Topui's defection drops Oregon's 2026 class down to fifth nationally behind USC, Clemson, Texas A&M and LSU, just ahead of Penn State at No. 8 and Ohio State at No. 13. For now, it leaves the Ducks with Tony Cumberland and Viliami Moala at defensive tackle, Dutch Horisk of St. John Bosco at defensive end. Yesterday Adam Gorney of Rivals named Oregon as the favorite to land five-star Sierra Canyon defensive end Richard Wesley, 6-5, 255.

Topui's decision stings, particularly because he's likely to commit to a conference rival in the Trojans. The football truism rings true: You can't teach size. In a year where there are a handful of premium big bodies in the West, it's a blow to lose out on one of the best.
