Ducks outexecuted in second quarter, trail 13-10

After a Dante Moore scramble was stopped just short of the sticks, the Ducks faced fourth and 1 on their own 34. They huddled after a TV timeout, came out with Moore under center.

Jordon Davison busted up the middle for eight and a first down. On the very next play Davison, spinning and bouncing off tacklers blasted up the middle again for 26 yards to the IU 32.

Moore scrambled for a first down but a holding penalty backed it up to the 38. Moore checked down to Davison, good for 7. Defensive holding gave the Ducks a fresh set of downs.

Limar ran off left tackle for four against a swarming defense. Jamari Johnson dropped an open pass. On 3rd and 6, receivers covered again, Moore is flushed right and sacked. Atticus Sappington hit a 40-yard field goal for a 10-10 tie.

The execution lacked crispness against a physical defense, but the Ducks had a tie.

Indiana's ball on 3rd and 1, the officials missed two calls, obvious interference on the Ducks, and Cignetti on the field and in the referee's face. A false start, induced by a presnap shift, forced a punt. Holding on the return cost the Ducks ten yards of field position, but the defense got its first three and out.

With 8:00 to play in the first half, the Ducks had the ball on their own 21. Moore hit Dakorien Moore for 14 on a slant. Moore threw one away, then missed Benson on a hitch. Protection broke down, a blitz by linebacker Isaiah Jones for a 12-yard loss.

Indiana got the ball at the 30. An out and a missed tackle Elijah Surratt got it to the 46. Omar Cooper shook off two tackles to cross midfield. Chunks in the passing game, time to throw. Indiana was taking the game to the Ducks. Thieneman tracked down a scramble for a yard gain. On 3rd and 9 in the four-down coverage led to a throwaway under pressure and a punt.

The kick, a smart one, was touched down at the ten. Davison bolted through the middle for another first down, the most success the Ducks were having coming on middle runs. Limar fought through for another first.

A checkdown to Johnson gained only three, taking the possession to the two-minute timeout, 2nd and 7 at the UO .

Benson, Moore and Bryant Jr. had just one catch each over the first 28 minutes. Bryant though, the hot route against the blitz, turned a hitch into an 18-yard gain. Then Moore hit Moore on a out route for another 18.

A false start put them back 5 to the 28. Davison ran for 7. Moore missed Sadiq low. On 3rd and 8, a handoff inside to Davison was shut down after three. Sappington's 36-yard field goal hooked left, still 10-10 with :24 seconds left.

Hemby ran for 13 around the left side out to the 34. An out to Surratt for another first down, 13 seconds left, a IU timeout with the ball out to their own 45. Devon Jackson committed an obvious pass interference to set up a 58-yard field goal try, on a pass well wide of the receiver.

Lanning iced the kicker. The kick would have been good. Branden Franke hit it again for a 13-10 lead.

Oregon missed, Indiana didn't. And the Hoosiers get the ball back in the second half. So far they're executing better than the Ducks.
