You couldn't script a better opener for the Ducks. They were bigger, faster, stronger and more focused, pulverizing the Big Sky Champion Montana State in Autzen Stadium, 59-13.
The Ducks scored the first nine times they got the ball, eight touchdowns and a field goal. Freshman running back Jordon Davison punched in three short touchdowns, using his powerful 235-pound frame to drive through the Bobcat line on scoring runs of 2, 8 and 1 yard.
As the new Oregon starting quarterback Dante Moore was crisp and accurate, reaching the sideline with out routes and zipping slant passes down the seam. He distributed the ball and connected with eight different receivers. He was on time and on the numbers, rarely missing, never putting the ball in harm's way. Protection was perfect.

Defensively, Matayo Uiagalelei began his assault on the Oregon record book with two sacks. Defensive tackle A'Mauri Washington provided the disruption inside, accounting for five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Peyton Woodyard and Dillon Thieneman ranged the field in the secondary.

Offensive line play was strong against the smaller opponent. The Ducks had no negative plays until the last snap in Victory Formation at the end. They did not allow a sack, getting big blocks on running plays for big gains, 35 yards on the opening play by Noah Whittington off a block by Alex Harkey, 28 yards by freshman Dierre Hill, 253 yards rushing in all.
It's tough to hold an opponent scoreless when they get 10 possessions, but it was solid debut for Tosh Lupoi's 2025 defense. They held Montana to 244 yards, the bulk of it on crossing routes to Taco Dowler, who caught 12 passes for 107 yards on shallow routes over the middle.
Still, the Ducks held MSU's vaunted rushing attack (three thousand-yard rushers last season) to 46 yards on 27 carries. They knocked them back for seven tackles for loss.
That's a correctable issue for the Oregon linebackers, one that gains importance between now and September 27 when they face No. 2 Penn State. The Nittany Lions' Trebor Pena and Devonte Ross are both crossing route specialists, similar to Pro Duck Tez Washington.
