Oregon climbed to No. 5 in the Coaches Poll Tuesday morning, leaping ahead of Texas, Miami, Clemson and Notre Dame. Big Ten rival Ohio State claimed No. 1 after their 14-7 win over the Longhorns.

Penn State, the Ducks' opponent in Beaver Stadium on September 27, stands second, making three conference teams in the Top Five. SEC Champion Georgia is third, while LSU rose to No. 4 after their 17-10 win at Clemson on Saturday.

Three 0-1 squads remain in the Top Ten, pointing to the way preseason expectations and rankings shape the narrative in college football. Despite losses Notre Dame, Clemson and Texas remain well-situated for the College Football Playoff.

Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State claimed the No. 10 spot, the highest-ranked team from the Big 12.

If the playoffs started tomorrow Illinois would be in at 12 and Michigan would be the first out at No. 13. The Wolverines travel to No. 24 Oklahoma this week, one of the premier matchups of Week Two. The Illini have a tough road test at Duke.

After 1-0 starts USC and Washington are among the other schools receiving votes, with the Trojans outside the poll at 31st. Future Oregon opponent Iowa faces a tough test this weekend at No. 18 Iowa State.
