Innovation and style will always be part of the Oregon brand. They don't do it to appeal to grumpy old fans. They do it because it's a hit with players and recruits, and it sells a lot jerseys and tee shirts.
Since it's a road game the program busted out a new, updated version of the classic Storm Trooper look, the design that inspired the epic win over Michigan in the Big House in 2007, the all-white helmet, jersey and pants the Ducks wore when they steamrolled Washington with 465 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground that same year.
A superstition has grown like fungus in a utility sink that the Storm Troopers are bad luck, but those two iconic wins belie that notion. It's selective memory, or the residue of trauma from the 2015 National Championship Game.
This update is smooth and clean with reflective numerals and silver-gray wings, silver gray tips on the shoes. It's fast and stylish, something that will inspire speed.
Another new helmet? Cool.

The Oregon offense could use a little inspiration. In their last two games they produced just 17 and 14 points in regulation, averaging 5.44 and 4.17 yards per play.
With the speed and talent they have, they need to inject some style and innovation into the attack as well. Dante Moore has a big arm and Jordon Davison is a powerful runner. Moore has two speedy receivers in Malik Benson and Dakorien Moore, a freak athlete at tight end in Kenyon Sadiq.
There's no reason for the offense to be so timid and pedestrian. It's time to be fast and explosive, since they have both the material and the threads to match.
In the words of the immortal ZZ Top, every girl's crazy about a sharp-dressed man.
