EA Sports CFB 25 simulation for Oregon vs. Purdue
We are just hours away from Week 8 kickoff which will feature Friday night's Oregon vs. Purdue game.
While this isn't exactly the primetime matchup everyone would want following a huge win over No. 2 Ohio State a week ago, it'll have to suffice. Plus, Purdue isn't exactly a pushover when it comes to playing top-five teams as an unranked squad.
In fact, Purdue has earned the nickname the "Spoilermakers" over the past 5-6 years due to their affinity for upsetting top-five or top-10 teams. Ask Michigan State, Ohio State, and Iowa fans about this.
Oregon heads into hostile territory hoping that Dillon Gabriel and Co. avoid a massive hangover game.
As has become tradition, I ran the game through an EA Sports College Football 25 simulation and here's what the video game believes will happen on Friday night.
Results of Oregon vs. Purdue simulation
Good news for Oregon fans: the Ducks narrowly avoid a massive upset in West Lafayette. After building a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, the Ducks' offense slows down and Purdue mounts a comeback, eventually taking a 24-23 lead in the fourth quarter before a late Oregon touchdown and two-point conversion win the game, 31-24.
Here are the key stats from the win:
Player | Stats |
---|---|
Dillon Gabriel | 16-for-31, 296 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 7 rushes for 29 yards |
Jordan James | 23 carries for 102 yards, 2 TDs; 1 catch for 17 yards |
Noah Whittington | 4 carries for 19 yards, 1 TD |
Traeshon Holden | 6 catches, 153 yards, TD |
Tez Johnson | 5 catches, 42 yards |
Terrance Ferguson | 2 catches, 40 yards |
Jeffrey Bassa | 9 total tackles |
Jestin Jacobs | 10 total tackles, 1 pass breakup |
Elijah Rushing | 4 tackles, 1 sack |
Jabbar Muhammad | 7 tackles, 1 interception |
Matayo Uiagalelei | 3 tackles, 1 sack |
Tysheem Johnson | 5 tackles, 1 interception |
One player who arguably had the best game of any defender was Jordan Burch who finished with nine tackles and three sacks but I obviously couldn't include him as he's unlikely to play on Friday night. But if he did play, just know that he'd wreak havoc on Purdue.
The Ducks recorded 446 total yards while allowing 393 and they won the turnover battle, 3-1.
A win's a win, but if EA Sports is right, this game could be way too close for comfort.
