Elite QB recruit Josiah Boyd shares great news for Oregon ahead of recruiting visit

When the Oregon Ducks take the field on Friday Night in Autzen Stadium the team will be focused on rebounding from the loss to Oklahoma State and building for the rest of the season. While the team focuses on preparing for the start of Big Ten play, the coaching staff will also be looking to build for the future.

The return to Autzen Stadium marks the return to the grind of recruiting. The coaching staff will have a smaller group of recruits on campus given that it’s not the biggest game, but the Ducks’ biggest target is planning on attending the game with great news for Oregon in his recruitment.

Oregon QB target Josiah Boyd includes Ducks in finalist group

On Wednesday elite quarterback recruit Josiah Boyd announced that his recruitment is down to 3 schools, with Oregon, UCLA, and Kentucky making the cut.

The news is especially great for the Ducks as Josiah Boyd will visit campus on Friday Night for the Portland State game.

The Ducks have long been seen as the frontrunner in Josiah Boyd's recruitment, with several of Rivals' recruiting experts predicting the Ducks will land the commitment. Thus far, Oregon hasn't landed a commitment in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but urgency may lead to the Ducks getting a quarterback on board sooner rather than later.

Oregon hosted elite quarterback recruit Tristin Gaines for a visit during the Boise State game, and it led to Rivals' Sam Spiegelman predicting the Ducks will land a commitment. Given that two quarterbacks are now main targets for the staff, it may create an urgency for either to get on board before the other.

According to Rivals’ Recruiting Rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 31st ranked player in the Country, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 4th ranked player out of California. Boyd is an elite dual-threat talent as he went 172-278 passing for 2,620 yards and 19 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions last season, while rushing for 462 yards and 9 touchdowns rushing, making him a great fit for the Oregon offense.

Coming out of this weekend, Oregon should have a great idea of where they stand in Josiah Boyd's recruitment. Leaving this weekend with a ton of momentum would go a long way, and if the Ducks can lock in a commitment, it would allow the staff to start building the class around him.

Dan Lanning and the staff have shown that they're going to be in the mix for the top playmakers regardless of position in every class, and Josiah Boyd is a great example. Quarterbacks become the biggest recruiting assets in every class, and the sooner the Ducks lock a quarterback in place, the easier it becomes to start lining everyone else up.
