Chatsworth, California five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley committed to the Ducks on May 10, announcing it by jumping into the swimming pool with Dan Lanning.

He decommitted on May 27, returned to visit Oregon again on June 6. A 6-5, 250 prospect rated the No. 6 recruit in the 2026 class and and the No. 1 EDGE in the country, the Ducks still had hopes of winning his recruitment.

Those hopes dimmed Sunday afternoon when he announced a commitment to Texas. He makes the 15th pledge in the class for the Longhorns, who rank No. 13 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC.

It's a blow for the Ducks, who want to land two edge rushers in this cycle as Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti enter their junior years. So far they've added Dutch Horisk, a 6-3, 245 defensive end from St. John Bosco, 6-3, 245.

They took just one edge rusher in the 2025 class, three-star Matthew Johnson from Concord, California.

With Lesley out of the picture the Ducks turn their efforts to Anthony "Tank" Jones the five-star from St. Paul's in Mobile, Alabama, 6-3, 240, No. 23 in the class and No. 2 at edge rusher. He visited Oregon June 13.

Jones is a quick, punishing defender with pro potential, physical mobile, and tenacious.

The Tide brought out the big guns for his visit this weekend.

A pattern has developed where the Ducks are trending or projected to win a recruit with a week or two until his commitment but fade badly down the stretch. They've lost out on Jared Curtis, Wesley, Jackson Cantwell and Brandon Arrington in maddeningly similar fashion. Ryder Lyons commits on Tuesday.
