Former Oregon QB Tyler Shough declares for 2025 NFL Draft, forgoes bowl game
By Sam Fariss
Tyler Shough joined the Oregon Ducks in 2018 and became the team's starting quarterback in 2020, following the departure of Justin Herbert to the NFL. Shough then transferred to Texas Tech in 2021 before finally landing at Louisville in 2024.
Now, as the Louisville Cardinals prepare for their postseason matchup in the Sun Bowl, Shough won't be the team's go-to guy at quarterback.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the former Oregon quarterback turned Louisville star announced that he would forego the rest of his season with the Cardinals and declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Tyler Shough career stats
- At Oregon (2 seasons): 118 completions, 1,703 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 282 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
- At Texas Tech (3 seasons): 237 completions, 2,922 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 432 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns
- At Louisville (1 season): 244 completions, 3,195 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 19 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
Shough led the Cardinals to an 8-4 overall record in the 2024 regular season and a fourth-place finish in the ACC. The quarterback led his team to wins over Kentucky, Pitt, then-No.11 Clemson, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Virginia, and more.
In 2023, while playing for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Shough actually faced his former team: the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks flew into Lubbock and trounced Sough and the Red Raiders 38-30. Due to injury, Shough's 2023 season was cut short.
The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled to start on April 24 and run through April 26. The Draft will be hosted around Lambeau Field (home to the Green Bay Packers) in Wisconsin.
