Now that the Oregon Baseball season is in the books and the college football season is still a few months away, Ducks fans are likely looking for a way to fill their sports itch. While Sabrina Ionescu continues to recover from a back injury, the best former Ducks star to keep close tabs on is Spencer Steer.

Rather than signing with the then Cleveland Indians out of High School as a 29th round pick, Spencer Steer bet on himself, playing college baseball at Oregon. In his 3 seasons with the Oregon Ducks, it became clear that Spencer Steer was an elite talent, making the All-Pac 12 first team as well as the All-Defensive Pac 12 team in 2019.

The decision to bet on himself paid off as Steer went from a 29th round pick out of High School to a 3rd round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. After starting his career with the Minnesota Twins, Spencer Steer is blossoming into a key piece for the Cincinnati Reds.

Spencer Steer has become a potential All Star at the MLB level

During his time at Oregon, Steer was never a major power threat with just 12 career home runs with a career high 6 home runs in his final season. In the MLB, Steer has far exceeded those numbers with 20+ home runs over the past 3 seasons. This season is already looking like it could be Steer's best year to date as he's been red hot to start the season.

On Thursday, Spencer Steer mashed his 10th home run of the season off of Padres starting pitcher Michael King.

It's not just the power that's showing up in a big way for Steer either as he's seeing a great uptick in production thus far. Steer's .258 batting average is the highest of his career while his on base percentage, OPS, and slugging percentages are above the best marks of his career.

The Reds currently sit in last place in the National League Central, but there's still plenty of time left in the season with how tight the division is. If the Reds are going to turn it around, Steer is going to play a massive role, or he could end up becoming a highly sought after player when the Trade Deadline arrives this Summer.

It's always great to watch former Ducks' excel at the professional level, and Steer is set up for a really exciting Summer.
