Across the NFL, teams are starting to get ready for the start of Training Camps with the 2026 NFL Draft and Free Agency now in the rearview mirror. As NFL OTA's and camps begin around the league, the excitement for each fanbase is beginning to ramp up. One of the teams with a ton of excitement ahead of the NFL season is surprisingly the New York Jets.

While the New York Jets' fans aren't expecting the team to go on a magical ride to the Super Bowl, there's a ton to be excited about heading into next season. After trading away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams at the Trade Deadline, the Jets made 3 first round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, putting the pieces in place to draft a quarterback next offseason.

The excitement that was starting to build up for the Jets fans ended up taking a pretty sizeable hit on Thursday Morning when they learned of an injury to a promising young asset.

Oregon 1st round pick Kenyon Sadiq undergoes hernia surgery

On Thursday Morning, it was revealed that former Oregon Ducks star, and New York Jets 1st round pick Kenyon Sadiq underwent a hernia procedure. The good news for Kenyon Sadiq and the New York Jets is that head coach Aaron Glenn said the team expects that he'll be ready for when the team kicks off Training Camp.

The news certainly hurts for the Jets as you'd love to have Kenyon Sadiq on the field as much as possible during OTAs. For any pass catcher, getting in sync with your new quarterback is crucial, especially for a weapon like Sadiq who will be deployed in a ton of ways. Even if OTAs aren't the most important point in the offseason, any extra reps learning the offense would be valuable for Sadiq.

In the long run, Kenyon Sadiq having hernia surgery isn't a major issue, and it's far better than the worst fears that Jets fans likely had when they heard that their 1st round pick needed to undergo surgery.

The New York Jets picked Kenyon Sadiq in the 1st round as a move to plan for the future, even while he'll help in the short term. The Jets have 3 1st round picks once again in the 2027 NFL Draft where they'll likely draft their franchise quarterback. Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr were added to the offense to help give that next quarterback all the weapons he needs to have success as soon as he steps on the field.

This past season at Oregon, Kenyon Sadiq caught 51 passes for 560 yards and 8 touchdowns while rushing for 6 yards. The Jets used the 16th Overall Pick on Sadiq, hoping that his athletic skill set would make him a more productive weapon at the NFL level as all the ability is there for him to become a star. Kenyon Sadiq signed the traditional 4 year rookie contract with the team with a value of $22,344,304.
