Sunday was a tough day for hundreds in the NFL as teams were required to cut their preseason rosters of 90 players down to 53 ahead of the regular season. While the day is brutal for the players, it isn't the end of the road as teams used the waiver wire to make minor additions to their teams before filling out their practice squads.
Among the players to fall victim to the numbers crunch on Sunday was former Oregon Ducks tight end Patrick Herbert. After spending 6 seasons in Eugene, Patrick Hebert was an undrafted free agent, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, spending the season on the Practice Squad. Herbert attempted to make the Jags again this season, but was released and decided to explore his options.
The Herbert brothers reunite with the Los Angeles Chargers
On Monday Night, NFL reporters shared the news that Patrick Herbert was opting to reunite with his brother Justin by joining the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad.

Herbert fielded offers from multiple teams but heads to LA having done extensive research on the starting QB.

The news is incredible for the Herbert family as they'll get to watch Justin and Patrick suit up together again like they did at Oregon. The two spent a season together at Oregon, but Justin didn't end up getting to pass to his brother as Patrick played two games before redshirting. Justin would leave after the season while Patrick battled injuries during his Oregon career, leaving Eugene with a career 31 catches for 388 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The battle now for Patrick Herbert is continuing to work on the practice squad with the hopes of eventually being activated for a game and finally showing the world the brotherly connection. The Chargers have a deep tight end room with Charlie Kolar, David Njoku, and Oronde Gadsden all in the mix. The good news for Patrick is that he shouldn't need much time to get on the same page with his brother which should give him a great chance to be activated later on.
